Hillary Clinton’s top aide Huma Abedin did a favor for a Clinton ally and alleged fraudster, helping some people get into a Hillary Clinton speech at Georgetown University. But key details of that favor were redacted in the State Department’s release of some emails to the group Citizens United pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act request.
“[redacted] [redacted] and they would love to attend HRC’s speech tomorrow. Any chance of getting them in?,” Roland Gonzalez-Bunster wrote to Abedin on October 17, 2012 in an email with the subject line “Georgetown University.”
“Of course. How do we get in touch with them? Can you send me emails?,” Abedin replied.
Bunster’s next response to Abedin was completely redacted, and it CC’ed someone whose name was also redacted. Abedin forwarded that message to herself, apparently switching the thread over to a different email address.
Bunster is a Clinton Foundation board member and chairman and CEO of the energy investment company InterEnergy Holdings. InterEnergy is an energy supplier in Carribean countries including the Dominican Republic. The company started putting money into wind farms in the Dominican Republic and Panama after it made a commitment “to expand our renewable energy efforts” at a 2013 Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Brazil.
Bunster was charged for fraud by the government of the Dominican Republic in 2013 after an investigation by the country’s Anti-Corruption Alliance, as reported in Peter Schweizer’s book “Clinton Cash.”
Bunster allegedly charged “ballooned” fees to the Dominican government for services. Some Dominican government officials were also charged alongside Bunster. Bunster’s company denied the charges.
