After appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton traveled to three separate fundraisers in Hollywood, spending extra time with donors who might be anxious about her recent stumbles in the polls.
It appeared that Clinton wasn’t just there to get more money from the Hollywood cash cow.
At one fundraiser, she appeared an hour early to spend “a ton of time with the VIP’s,” according to one attendee who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter. A source to Deadline suggested that Clinton “needed to come out here to reassure some of the important relationships she has here.”
Some in the Hollywood crowd have rejected Clinton’s candidacy, voicing support for Sen. Bernie Sanders or potential candidate Vice President Joe Biden.
The first fundraiser was held at the home of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairman Rob Friedman and his wife Shari followed by an event at Elevate Lounge in downtown Los Angeles. The final fundraiser was held at the home of Dr. Asif Mahmood, a pulmonologist.
Few A-list celebrities were buzzed about after they attended the reception, suggesting that her candidacy has yet to match the energy Hollywood had for President Obama when he was running against Clinton.
Celebrities like Will Ferrell, Mark Ruffalo, and Patton Oswalt have already announced their support for Sanders, while other Hollywood supporters have signaled that they are waiting to see what Biden does before pledging support for Clinton.
According to sources who spoke to Variety, Clinton vowed during her speech to defend Planned Parenthood, warning that Republicans would only get more extreme after the resignation of House Speaker John Boehner.
