Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina criticized the Washington Post for its article on her history in the corporate world and stated, “I’ve always been a conservative” when asked about the scrutiny she has received regarding her past and her positions on Friday’s “Sean Hannity Show.”
Fiorina was asked, about the increased scrutiny she has faced, and “I’ve noticed that there’s been a lot of chatter, raising questions about when you became a conservative, for example, and whether you once supported federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, or supported the California DREAM Act, or supported [Sen.] Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) immigration plan, are any of those issues true, and when did you really develop your conservative ideology?”
She answered, that when someone rises in the polls they take more scrutiny, but some of it is “crazy.” In particular, she pointed to a Washington Post article, and stated, “the story this week is that I actually wasn’t a secretary. … I was a secretary.” She continued, “What’s so ludicrous about this, is I don’t recall anyone ever questioning whether Barack Obama was a community organizer.”
Fiorina continued, “I learned conservatism as principles, literally at my father’s knee.”
She later added, while talking about her campaigning in Iowa, “I don’t change what I say depending on the audience. I say the same things over, and over, and over again. But here’s the thing, I’m a conservative. I’ve always been a conservative. I ran as a pro-life conservative in the state of California, never changed my positions, and won’t now.”
