Thursday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” former General Electric CEO Jack Welch weighed in on the 2016 race for the White House. In his appearance, he described Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) as well as Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) as possible winners of the 2016 contest.
As for Trump, Welch praised him as being someone who is saying things that he would like to say, but was uncertain of his prospects.
“Is he a winner? I don’t know,” Welch said.
Welch also defended former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, who has had her executive experience questioned as she has risen in the polls.
“She’s done so much better than I ever would have dreamed in terms of her debating skills, her interviewing skills, her knowledge of the issues, her ability to articulate them,” Welch said. “There hasn’t been an interviewer yet that’s stumped her. She’s buried every one of them.”
Welch went on to emphasize the importance of defeating Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, and electing a Republican as he has been “totally disappointed” by House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
