Wednesday on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings With Maria Bartiromo,” NBA hall of famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar criticized Republican presidential candidate former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Ben Carson for saying he believes a Muslim would not be qualified to be president.
Abdul-Jabbar called Carson’s words “an expression of bigotry” and rejected Carson’s recent efforts to clarify his position.
He continued, “Americans are judged on their character when they run for office. There is no religious component in qualifying for public office in America. That is clearly in the Constitution. So Mr. Carson says we have to support the Constitution, but he does not support the Constitution by denying Muslims the same access to public office as any other person form any other religion. He is clearly distorted and I think a little deranged.”
