GOP Candidates React to Scott Walker’s Presidential Campaign Suspension

GOP presidential candidates are reacting to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s decision to suspend his campaign.

Walker took a jab at the GOP frontrunner during his announcement that he is dropping out of the race, saying he wants to clear the field so an alternative to the frontrunner can rise to the top. Frontrunner Donald Trump, before Scott Walker’s jab, posted on Twitter his reaction to hearing Walker was suspending his campaign: “I got to know ‪@ScottWalker well—he’s a very nice person and has a great future.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) also reacted on Twitter to Scott Walker’s campaign suspension.

“I wish Gov. ‪@ScottWalker and Tonette all the best in their continued service to Wisconsin and the country,” Cruz posted.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) posted on Twitter his well-wishes to Walker too. “Scott is a great governor with much to be proud of. He put his heart & soul into this campaign & I wish him & his family all the best.”

Gov. Chris Christie posted on his Twitter, “I wish ‪@ScottWalker all the best. He’s a great Governor, a fighter & a good friend. I know he will continue to work hard for our party & WI.”

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) made his thoughts about Scott Walker’s decision known through several posts on Twitter.

.‪@ScottWalker is a good man who entered the presidential race after winning three grueling campaigns in four years.

I know many people are disappointed with Scott’s announcement and I respect what a difficult decision it must have been.

He remains one of the best governors in the country and I have no doubt that he’ll continue the fight for conservative principles.

Republicans are lucky to have Scott on our team, and I wish the best to him and his family.

Gov. Jeb Bush posted, “Scott Walker is a good man who has a proven record of fighting for conservative reforms. I know he’ll continue to do that as Governor.”

Sen. Rick Santorum released a statement about Walker’s decision to drop out:

Scott Walker has been one of America’s strongest governors over the past 6 years. From taking on public employee unions to fighting for the most vulnerable, the people of Wisconsin are blessed to have a strong leader in Scott Walker at the helm. I appreciated the opportunity to get to know Governor Walker over the past several months and I wish him and his family the best. I am sure this is not the last we will hear from Governor Walker.

Gov. Mike Huckabee also sent out a press statement about Walker’s campaign decision:

As difficult a decision as it is to start a run for president, it’s even more challenging to stop the race. I commend Governor Walker for his courage to step into the difficult presidential arena. He entered the race with honor and left the race with honor and grace. Janet and I wish him and Tonette all the best as he continues to lead the people of Wisconsin.
