On September 20, a 26-year-old man allegedly opened fire in a church in East Selma, Alabama, wounding his girlfriend, their baby, and the church’s pastor.
The incident occurred at Oasis Tabernacle Church.
According to Fox News, James Junior Minter took a seat between his girlfriend and their baby then “pulled out a handgun and started shooting” around 11 a.m. He shot his girlfriend “in the jaw and shoulder,” shot the baby in the hand, and shot pastor Earl Carswell in the leg as he tried to stop Minter.
Congregants were able to “subdue Minter” and take his gun away. Thereafter, he fled but “was captured by police less than a mile away.” Selma, Alabama, police said he is being “charged with three counts of attempted murder” but indicated other charges may be added as the investigation unfolds.
Alabama police believe Minter was “upset over a recent breakup [with his girlfriend] and visitation issues with his son,”
All of the shooting victims are hospitalized in stable condition.
