Early Saturday morning, a man was shot and killed by police at the end of a car chase after exchanging gunfire along Interstate 10 in Slidell, Louisiana.
The confrontation was launched when a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Lucien Rolland, 46, who fled in his white GMC Sierra pickup, prompting a chase that featured the driver firing shots at law enforcement comprised of St. Tammany deputies, a Louisiana State Police Trooper, and an officer with Slidell Police. When the driver fled, a passenger leaped out of the car. Police believe they found the passenger later, who was then arrested.
State Police used a tire deflation device to stop the pickup near the Gause Blvd. exit on I-10, causing the driver to exit the pickup with a semi-automatic handgun. The driver was killed in the ensuing shootout. Sheriff Jack Strain said Rolland “challenged” the officers, who “engaged the individual and neutralized the threat.”
The eastbound I-10 was shut down for eight hours.
