Six members of the Memphis Police Department, showing how classy, empathetic, and noble police can be, escorted the daughter of a colleague killed in 2011 to a father-daughter dance at her school. The officers also brought a new dress, a rose from each officer, and transportation for Jewel Warren to the dance in a classic 1972 Cutlass Supreme .
Jewel’s father, Tim Warren, 39, was killed responding to a domestic incident at the Doubletree hotel in downtown Memphis, leaving behind his wife and two children.
The Memphis Police Department’s Facebook page told the story of how the officers got involved. The Department acknowledged that Warren’s widow remained a staunch advocate and supporter of the Department, then segued to how Jewel was saddened by an invitation for a father-daughter dance at her school. Her mother contacted Taylor Amen, a MPD Officer’s wife, and Donna Kirk, a widow of a Memphis Firefighter and founder of Our Fallen Heroes Foundation. Amen and Kirk then contacted the police officers.
Two flower shops, Holliday Flowers and Lynn Doyle Flowers, donated boutonnieres for the officers, a corsage and long-stem roses for Jewel.
Our Fallen Heroes Foundation and the West TN C.O.P.S. donated funds for Jewel’s dress.
West TN C.O.P.S President Andrea Bradfield Woods invited Jewel and her grandfather to the dance, as well as donating the tickets for all involved.
