New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says that if someone from his political circle called President Obama a Muslim, he would correct the record.
“I wouldn’t have permitted that,” Christie responded, when asked about an incident involving Donald Trump that has outraged members of the mainstream media.
”I would correct him. I’d say that the president’s a Christian and he was born in this country,” Christie explained during an interview with NBC’s “Today” show this morning. “Those two things are self-evident.”
During Trump’s political rally in New Hampshire yesterday, one man pointed out that Muslims were a “problem” in the United States. “You know our current president is one,” he said. “You know he’s not even an American.”
Christie said he wouldn’t criticize Trump for the way he acted, but that it was his decision about whether or not to apologize.
But Christie was clear that he would have acted differently.
“I think you have an obligation of a leader to do that,” he said.
