SIMI VALLEY — Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) cracked a joke about California’s drought at the start of the GOP debate on Wednesday evening.
“I’m also aware that California has a drought,” Rubio said, “and so that’s why I made sure I brought my water.”
At that, Rubio reached for his water bottle–a reference to his rebuttal to the State of the Union address in 2013, when, sweating under the lights, he reached for an off-camera refreshment.
The gesture became a popular Internet meme–and a joke that Rubio often tells at his own expense.
