Whether you love it, or hate it, there’s no denying that Donald Trump’s signature “Make America Great Again” campaign ball cap has become one of the most recognizable fashion accessories of the year.
First worn by Trump this July in Laredo, Texas, it has since been spotted on hipsters from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, and even in the football locker of New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady.
“It has become the hottest fashion item there is,” Trump told the New York Times recently.
While the old school, wide-brimmed hat appears to be polling well with loyal Trump supporters, and even apathetic millennials across the country, there is one group of critics that says the campaign item is most definitely not on trend.
Bloomberg Politics took a few of the hats down to a show at New York Fashion Week to get a reaction from guests, and they had a lot to say.
“Trump doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” said one woman in regards to Trump calling his hat the “hottest fashion item there is.”
“I am not a Trump supporter,” said another model, pictured on the right below, who doesn’t seem to understand politics, or, well, anything. “Like, I don’t know geology, but you cannot be that racist. We’re all good people…I’m Mexican, and I’m not a drug dealer.”
“I’m not sure if it’s for him, but I think he could maybe wear one of these hats to cover the mess on his head,” another young man told BP.
Many of the young fashionistas at NYFW rejected the idea of modeling the hat in public, but that didn’t stop them from posing with it in photographs.
Some of the most fashionable people in the world may not agree with “The Donald” or his fashion game, but according to poll numbers, the GOP presidential hopeful’s message to “Make America Great Again” is resonating with manyAmericans.
The hats come in four different designs and can be purchased for $25 on Trump’s campaign website, as well as a store in the Trump Tower, where they promptly sold out, per The Times.
