SIMI VALLEY, California — Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) told Breitbart News here at the 2016 GOP presidential debate that House Democrats will not bail out Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) if conservatives make a move to remove him as Speaker of the House.
“We support our candidate for Speaker of the House,” Wasserman Schultz said in a brief interview outside the debate hall at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library here. “That has been Nancy Pelosi. In terms of my ability to speak where Democrats would be, I know we would cast our votes for our choice for Speaker. It certainly won’t be a Republican.”
Wasserman Schultz is here to cause chaos for Republicans as the GOP is increasingly divided between the establishment and conservative sides of the party, along with the rise of billionaire and current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.
Her pledge that Democrats won’t vote to help Boehner—still as of yet unconfirmed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, but a major step in the efforts by the Republican conference to remove Boehner as Speaker—puts one more nail in the coffin of Boehner’s speakership. There are currently, as Breitbart News has confirmed, enough GOP votes to remove Boehner as Speaker of the House on a motion to vacate the chair, as it’s called, so the only way Boehner can keep the speakership if a vote comes up is if he gets help from Democrats or if some kind of spectacular shenanigans go on.
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), the author of the resolution containing the motion to vacate the chair, can put it forward as a privileged resolution at any time he wants—or any other member can—and that would force a vote.
Wasserman Schultz also told Breitbart News that she would welcome Vice President Joe Biden to the field of Democratic candidates for president. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been struggling as of late, and talk of Biden getting into the race has been getting more intense.
“I, as the chair of the Party, don’t have an opinion on who gets into the race,” Wasserman Schultz said when asked if Biden should run. “I have always said the sitting Vice President of the United States would always be welcome and a fantastic addition to our field of candidates. That is still how I feel.”
