A new poll released Sunday morning by the Los Angeles Times shows Donald Trump leading among Republican voters in California, with 24% of the vote. Fellow outsider Dr. Ben Carson is second, with 18% of registered voters.
The Times reports that the poll was conducted by the Democratic firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research and the Republican firm American Viewpoint “on behalf of the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and the Los Angeles Times.” It surveyed 1,500 registered voters from Aug. 29 through Sept. 8.
Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz were a distant third, tied at 6% in the poll. Marco Rubio and Carly Fiorina tied for fifth, with 5%. Scott Walker, who once enjoyed a wide lead, was in seventh place among California Republicans, at 2%.
Hillary Clinton led among Democratic voters with 42% of registered voters ahead of 26% for socialist insurgent candidate Bernie Sanders.
The poll showed Republican voters preferring Carson to Trump in a head-to-head matchup, 43% to 32%. The margin of error for the poll was 5.3% for Republicans and 3.6% for Democrats (presumably due to sample sizes).
