Ahead of the Tea Party Patriots rally on Capitol Hill Wednesday protesting the Iran Deal, GOP presidential candidate Sen. Rick Santorum is calling on the Senate to treat President Obama’s Iran negotiation as a treaty.
Santorum said the United States Senate should vote on the Iran nuclear agreement as if it were a full treaty. He argues that President Obama has violated the terms set forth by the Corker-Cardin agreement, since Obama failed to submit the full agreement to Congress.
Santorum stated:
The facts are clear. President Obama has violated the terms of the Corker-Cardin agreement. By not submitting his Iranian agreement and all related materials to Congress, President Obama has made the terms of Corker-Cardin moot. Majority Leader McConnell should immediately call for a vote on the ratification of the Iran deal, treating it as a treaty as outlined in the Constitution. It is time for the Republican Senate to use their constitutional authority, stand up as an equal branch of government, and vote down this threat to global security.
Fellow GOP presidential candidates Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump are attending a rally against the Iran Deal Wednesday afternoon on Capitol Hill hosted by Tea Party Patriots. Many other conservative leaders will also be in attendance.
