Hillary’s Claim that ‘Everyone Knew’ About Private Server Contradicts what Obama Said

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s claim that “everyone” in the government that she talked to knew that she was using a private email server contradicts statements given by President Obama and top White House advisers.

Clinton said in an interview with ABC News Tuesday that “everyone in the government I communicated with knew I was using personal email but I am sorry that it has raised all of these questions.”

But President Obama and his top advisers all said that they had no idea.

Obama said in a March CBS News interview that he didn’t learn about Clinton’s private email use until the scandal broke publicly this year. Obama said that he learned about the private email address “the same time everybody else learned it through news reports.”

Former Obama White House chief of staff Bill Daley denied in an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt that he knew about Clinton’s private email server.

Top Obama White House adviser David Axelrod also said in June that he did not know about Clinton’s private email.

“I confess, I didn’t, I was there, I was the senior adviser. I didn’t know that,” Axelrod said in an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest’s March explanation seemed to suggest that President Obama emailed with Clinton during her four years as Secretary of State, but that he didn’t realize she was using a private server.

“The president, as I think many people expected, did over the course of his first several years in office trade emails with his secretary of state,” Earnest said at a press conference. “I would not describe the number of emails as large, but they did have the occasion to email each other.”

“The point that the president was making is not that he didn’t know Secretary Clinton’s email address, he did. But he was not aware of the details of how that email address and that server had been set up or how Secretary Clinton and her team were planning to comply with the Federal Records Act.”
