President Obama celebrated Labor Day with another executive order to help enforce his agenda.
According to The Huffington Post, Obama plans to sign an order Monday requiring all businesses who compete for federal contracts to provide their employees seven paid sick days.
Obama is acting on his own, as Congress ignored his demand in his State of the Union address in February to give “every worker in America the opportunity to earn seven days of paid sick leave.”
“It’s the right thing to do,” Obama explained at the time.
Obama is traveling to Boston Monday to deliver a speech at the Boston Labor Council’s annual Labor Day Breakfast.
Obama has used his executive power before to bend federal contracting rules to fit his own agenda.
In July 2014, he signed an executive order barring federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In August, 2014, he signed an order requiring federal contractors to disclose labor law violations. He also signed an executive order demanding that all federal contract employees pay a minimum wage of $10.10 an hour.
