In what has become an incessant drumbeat behind the ongoing drama of the now jailed County Clerk standing fast against gay marriage, the mainstream media and spokesmen for the sexual left are attacking Kim Davis’s religious claims and bona fides.
Because Davis has been in multiple marriages and had children out of wedlock, she has been targeted as a hypocrite for refusing the grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Gay provocateur and anti-Christian bully Dan Savage said on MSNBC, “She’s a hypocrite. This is a woman sho’s been divorced three times and married four times…Jesus Christ himself in Scripture condemns divorce, calls it adultery and forbids it. Jesus Christ in Scripture says not one word about same-sex marriage.”
Savage went on to accuse Davis of wanting to cash in, eventually going “on the right-wing lecture circuit and she’ll never have to do an honest days’ work ever again in her life.”
Even those with more credibility than Savage, who once tried to infect campaign workers in the Gary Bauer campaign with the flu and who recently bullied a crowd of Christian students, mainstream media figures Tweeted insults upon Davis and her marital past.
In a piece called “Kentucky Clerk Didn’t Follow Christianity Before Converting to It” Mollie Hemingway at The Federalist collected a list of Savage-like comments and Tweets from mainstream reporters.
Reporter Steve Nelson of U.S. News and World Report led a story about Davis: “The Kentucky county clerk facing potentially stiff penalties for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses has been married four times, raising questions of hypocrisy and selective application of the Bible to her life.”
Hemingway points out that most reporters complain about “slut-shaming,” yet here they are piling on. Nelson went to court records to show that “Davis divorced three times, first in 1994, then 2006 and again in 2008.”
Nelson then Tweeted, “Kim Davis had twins 5 months after divorcing husband one. They were fathered by #3 but adopted by #2.”
According to Hemingway, similar Tweets went out from those connected to the Huffington Post, Daily Beast, Washington Post and the New York Times.
Binjamin Applebaum of the New York Times Tweeted, “Wow. That Kentucky clerk has quite a record of biblical transgression.”
But, as Hemingway’s headline makes clear, all of these supposed transgressions, all of these acts of supposed hypocrisy happened before Davis converted to Christianity, yet the media and the sexual left seem not to understand that. And even if they do, certainly don’t care.
Hemingway Tweeted, “Journalists have demonstrated today they’re clueless about both forgiveness and redemption. Explains a lot.”
Meanwhile Davis languishes in jail, still refusing to give in to the Federal government’s insistence that marriage can occur between two men or two women. Besides being accused of hypocrisy, she is roundly condemned for not following the “rule of law” even though, as Nicholas Frankovich at National Review’s Corner points out, several government officials were lauded for doing exactly the same thing in the service to gay marriage.

In 2010, attorney general Jerry Brown declined to answer legal challenges to California’s marriage law, which, after Proposition 8, was that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid.” His job was to represent the state of California in legal matters and defend its laws, including those he didn’t like.
In 2013, D. Bruce Hanes, an official of Montgomery County, began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, in defiance of Pennsylvania state law.”
