On September 3, an 11-year-old boy in North St. Louis County, Missouri, shot and killed an alleged home invader to protect his 4-year-old sister.

According to KMOV, the boy and his sister were home alone on Hallwood Drive, near Castle Point, “when two men attempted to break in. The suspects attempted to get into the home twice, but failed.” But authorities say the suspects allegedly “made their way inside through the front door on the third attempt around 2:30 p.m.” At that point, the 11-year-old retrieved a gun and shot and killed 16-year-old Lamonte Streeter.

Police indicated that “Streeter’s body was found inside the home and evidence collected at the scene indicates that he was shot while inside.”

The second alleged home invader–whom police described as “22-year-old Stevieon Jackson”–was arrested shortly thereafter.

The 11-year-old’s mother told police she purchased the gun for protection. Police say the mother “is cooperating with authorities,” and the “11-year-old is being questioned by police regarding the incident.”
