Limbaugh: Trump, Tea Party Standing Up to Stop Dilution of What It Means to Be an American

On his Thursday radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh hit back at those criticizing GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump for challenging his opponent, former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL), for not speaking English to a press gaggle earlier this week.

Limbaugh argued that such criticism aimed at Trump signifies an effort to dilute what it means to be an American.

“[T]here is no assimilation,” Limbaugh said. “There is no melding, or melting pot if you will. There is a purposeful balkanization going on brought to you by the modern-day Democrat Party and specifically Barack Hussein O. You have Mexican-Americans. You have Hispanic-Americans. We have gay Americans. We have LGBT Americans. We have Muslim-Americans. ‘Americans’ is always second. The ethnicity is always number one and the modern-day Democratic Party wants it that way because they think America needs to be punished because we’ve been too big for our britches. We’ve been too big. We’ve been too powerful. And we have acquired our power in ill-gotten ways. We stole it. We stole our resources from other people and other countries. It’s absurd and it’s obscene.

Limbaugh also question Washington Post editorial page editor Fred Hiatt for likening Trump to what he had experienced in Moscow in a column published last month where the American part is separate subset of identity in the eyes locals. Instead, Limbaugh argued Trump was trying to do just the opposite.

“And this balkanization that is happening in this country – they support it,” he continued. “It’s one of the ways you rip apart the fabric of this country – by diluting what it is to be an American, by making American seem less important than anything else about you. And for Fred Hiatt to sit here and recount his days in Moscow and say, ‘This is what Trump is bringing to America.’ Trump is raising his hand and trying to stop this. The conservative movement, the Tea Party – whatever you want to call it are doing their best to stand and stop this dilution of what it means to be an American. We all are. This is incredible and the fact that this has become a controversy – that speaking English in your own country and standing up for that is fighting words – that is incredible.”
