Gov. Bobby Jindal has announced a statewide day of prayer in Louisiana for law enforcement on September 14 and has urged state and local officials and church groups to honor those who provide law enforcement services on that date.
In a statement from his office, Jindal said:
On Monday, September 14, we are welcoming Louisianians to unite in prayer for our law enforcement officers across the state. Too often, we forget the sacrifice and commitment these brave men and women make on a daily basis in order to protect our families and uphold the peace in our communities. Our officers understand the real risk and responsibility that comes with this career and we are extremely grateful for their dedicated service. We’re encouraging all Louisianians to take a few minutes out of their day to pray for and thank a local law enforcement officer for their unending commitment to our communities.”
Jindal, a 2016 GOP contender, noted that “nine law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty in Louisiana this year.”
“We wish to acknowledge their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their families,” the governor said.
He continued in his proclamation that Louisiana is “a state whose people turn to prayer when faced with adversity,” and that “we value each human being as a life made by our Creator, in his image, and thank God that every life is sacred.”
“In this time of grief, we petition the Lord to provide comfort to Louisianians, understanding to families affected by these tragedies, and protection to all law enforcement as they selflessly serve in the face of danger each day,” the governor continued.
Jindal also invited the governors of other states to join him in designating September 14 as a “day of prayer for our law enforcement individuals who daily risk their lives providing protection to communities throughout our Nation.”
