Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” a panel including Bloomberg’s Al Hunt and “With All Due Respect” host John Heilemann agreed with Democratic presidential candidate former Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD) that Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) is limiting the number of debates to only six in order to to benefit front-runner Hillary Clinton.
Host Joe Scarborough asked, “Are they rigging it for Hillary? Is that what the deal is? Will anybody say what’s happening here?”
Heilemann said, “I will sure. Look, every one of those candidates who is not Hillary Clinton has a strong argument to make that it seems like the party is protecting Hillary Clinton.”
Hunt added, “Yeah, sure they are. I think, by the way, that O’Malley exaggerates the importance. The problem the Democrats have is they ought to have a Reince Priebus type as their chair person. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a member of Congress, isn’t doing anything the Democrats need to do organizationally, and she’s not an effective chairperson. The debates are a secondary issue.”
