Hillary Clinton campaign officials are telling people at the Democratic National Committee meeting in Minneapolis that Clinton already has one-fifth of the delegates she needs to take the Democratic nomination for president.
Though Clinton actually has about 130 Democratic superdelegates lined up, the campaign wants people to know that her number is really around 440 based on backroom deals and non-public conversations.
And a single primary has yet to be held!
Clinton appeared and spoke Friday at the meeting, where she further spat in the face of the primary voting process.
“As some of you might recall, in 2008, I got a lot of votes but I didn’t get enough delegates,” Clinton said in her remarks. “And so I think it is understandable that my focus is going to be on delegates, as well as votes, this time.”
Clinton also took a shot at her top Republican opponent.
“The party of Lincoln has become the party of Trump,” Clinton said, noting that a general election matchup with Donald Trump would be “fun.”
Progressive stalking-horse Bernie Sanders served AmeriCone Dream ice cream scoops from Ben & Jerry’s. Former governors Lincoln Chaffee and Martin O’Malley spoke, too. O’Malley focused on the need for Democratic debates. Jim Webb skipped the event because he thought it was going to be too Clinton-friendly.
Bernie Sanders-Mania, however, was present at the event, where he was reportedly “swarmed” outside the elevator.
