In a 23-page manifesto sent to ABC News, alleged Virginia gunman Vester Lee Flanagan said that the tipping point for the August 26 attack that took Allison Parker and Adam Ward’s lives was the Charleston church attack and that the initials of the the Charleston shooting victims were on the bullets he allegedly fired today.
Flanagan wrote, “What sent me over the top was the church shooting. And my hollow point bullets have the victims’ initials on them.”
According to ABC News, he then addressed alleged Charleston gunman Dylann Roof by writing, “As for Dylann Roof? You (deleted)! You want a race war (deleted)? BRING IT THEN YOU WHITE …(deleted)!!!”
While pointing to the Charleston shooting as that which had put him over the top, Flanagan praised the Virginia Tech gunman who killed 32 in 2007 and the Columbine gunman who killed 13 in 1999. He called Virginia Tech gunman Seung Hui Cho “his boy” and wrote of how Cho had been able to kill so many more than the Columbine gunmen.
Flanagan indicated his attack had been a long time coming. He said he had faced “discrimination” from “black men and white females” and that “he was attacked for being a gay, black man.”
In the manifesto, Flanagan claimed that he was angry, that he “[has] every right to be,” and that he wanted to leave the earth feeling only one emotion–“peace.”
