On August 23, a Louisiana State Trooper was shot in the head during a traffic stop in which he pulled over a driver who appeared to be driving impaired.
According to WDSU, the incident occurred in “the Lake Charles area,” near the intersection of Highway 14 East and Fruge Road. The trooper was allegedly shot “after being involved in an altercation during a traffic stop.”
Louisiana State Patrol Col. Mike Edmonson said, “The suspect was subsequently detained by passing motorists as additional citizens rendered aid to the trooper until assistance arrived on the scene.”
The unidentified trooper was “critically wounded” and was rushed to a hospital for surgery.

The incident occurred as the Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver and was shot during the course of the interaction. The suspect was subsequently detained by passing motorists as additional citizens rendered aid to the Trooper until assistance arrived on the scene.
