A family on vacation in Wales discovered that their trip to the beach might have been their last vacation on earth after they discovered that the “beach buoy” they were playing with was actually an unexploded bomb from WWII.
The family took a series of vacation photos of their six and four-year-old children running around and having a great time climbing on the barnacle-covered “buoy.”
“We were more fascinated by the barnacles on it,” mother Kelly Gravell told the media. “My son was touching it and was knocking on it a little bit, and that was it really.”
But after posting photos of their vacation jungle gym on line, people became alarmed, because instead of a beach buoy what the family was crawling all over was an unexploded United States military mine bomb from WWII.
Needless to say, the family was shocked.
“It very much looks like a buoy, which we get on the regular, but around it was gooseneck barnacles,” the press and communications officer for Carmarthenshire County Council later said. “Of course as the barnacles started dropping off, that’s when we could see writings exposed.”
Authorities later safely exploded the bomb on the beach.
