On the campaign trail in Iowa Wednesday, 2016 GOP contender Bobby Jindal observed that the actions of both Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry have “surrendered our national security.”
The Louisiana governor’s comments come following Secretary of State John Kerry’s acknowledgment that the Chinese and Russian governments could be reading his emails.
On CBS Evening News Tuesday Kerry commented on the revelation in July that the Pentagon’s Joint Staff email had been breached and that Russian was suspected as the culprit. He told anchor Scott Pelley that “it is very likely” that China and Russia are reading his emails.
“It is very likely,” Kerry said. “It is not … outside the realm of possibility and we know they have attacked a number of American interests over the course of the last few days. It’s very possible … and I certainly write things with that awareness.”
Jindal also continued his criticism of Clinton, reports CNN, whose emails are now being investigated by the FBI.
“Our nation’s top secrets could be on that server,” he told the crowd. “Question for service members: If you had been reckless with the nation’s secrets, what would have happened to you?”
“Why should rules be different for Clinton?” he continued. “I’m tired of the political class thinking they’re on higher ground.”
According to a press release from Jindal’s campaign, the governor said: “The gross negligence of this administration is breathtaking. Obama’s first Secretary of State was keeping Top Secret emails on her home server and his second can’t keep his emails from being read by foreign governments.”
Stating that the nation’s top officials are admitting to “ineptitude” and “incompetence,” Jindal added, “Hillary Clinton and John Kerry need to explain why they think that they can surrender our national security to our enemies and not face any consequences. If ordinary members of our armed forces took home top secret documents or leaked information to a foreign Government, they would be brought before a court martial.”
