Carson: I’m Against Abortion, On Life of Mother Look at ‘Individual Situation’

Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson stated that he is “totally opposed to killing babies” and “you have to look at the individual situation” in cases of the life of the mother, which he said was “largely spurious” as an argument because such a situation “rarely occurs” on Tuesday’s broadcast of “CBS This Morning.”

Carson was asked about Hillary Clinton’s statement that “What Donald Trump is saying about Megyn Kelly is outrageous, and what the rest of the Republicans are also saying about women is also outrageous” and whether he wanted to “separate himself” from Trump. He responded, “Well, all I can say is, you know, it was a women, my mother, who’s responsible for my success. And I have the most wonderful wife. In my medical career, I had terrific female physician assistants, and administrative people who I could not have succeeded without. So, how she’s going to tie me to that, I don’t know.”

Carson was then asked about his position on abortion, specifically he would ban abortions in the case of rape, incest, and the life of the mother. Carson talked about his time as a pediatric neurosurgeon, and “fighting, struggling, to save the lives of little babies. Even operating on babies inside the womb. So, I don’t think it should be hard for anybody to understand that I am totally opposed to killing babies.”

When the question specifically turned to an exemption for the life of the mother, Carson said, “I think when it comes to the case of the life of the mother, you have to look at the individual situation, Recognize that that’s largely a spurious argument because we’ve advanced so much in medicine these days, that that situation rarely occurs.”

Carson also argued, when asked about his lack of political experience that “problem solvers” are needed, and “wisdom is much more important than political experience.” He defined wisdom as “the ability to take the information and use it in an effective way.”
