Police in Pascagoula, Mississippi, reported on Monday that two 16-year-old males were arrested for last week’s attack on the home of a local 85-year-old military veteran.
At the end of July, the elderly veteran, Korean War Veteran Bob Coman, found his home vandalized with racial graffiti and his Mississippi state flag torn down and burned in his yard. The state flag contains a canton featuring the Confederate Southern Cross. The phrase “blacks rule” was spray-painted on the man’s driveway.
“I’m tore up. It just really disturbed me. That’s the worst thing that could happen to a flag, get burned. I wouldn’t want anybody to even walk on it,” Coman said at the time.
Pascagoula Police Department Investigator Captain Shannon Massey said that the case had been turned over to the Jackson County Youth Court and demurred from saying whether or not hate crime charges would be sought.
Captain Massey reported that four Mississippi teens have been arrested for robberies and vandalism in the area. Two were the 16-year-olds accused of burning the elderly man’s state flag.
