Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) sparked fireworks at the Republican debate on Thursday evening when he challenged frontrunner Donald Trump at the outset on his past campaign contributions.

Earlier in the day, however, he had suggested that he would not target Trump in the debate.

In an earlier interview on Fox, Sen. Paul had said: “I don’t think about it that much. I think about trying to get my ideas and my issues out. So I’ll try to break through some of the other stuff to try to present what I’m about.”

Paul also joked: “Is he [Trump] going to be here tonight?”

Whether clever fake or flip-flop, Paul brought the heat.
