A manhunt is underway after a Louisiana police officer has died from being shot while on duty late Wednesday night in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Officers converged onto the scene after receiving a report of a suspicious person in which they expected an armed suspect holding a family member hostage inside of a house around 9 p.m.
When the initial officer arrived on scene, the suspect began to open fire– striking the officer several times.
After being rushed to the hospital with what Shreveport Police Department spokesman Cpl. Marcus Hines described as “critical injuries” immediately after the shooting, the officer was announced dead just after midnight.
More than 70 units converged onto the scene after a call from where the initial incident occurred.
Louisiana State Police, sheriff’s deputies from surrounding parishes, and U.S. Marshals have been begun an active manhunt for the suspect, who is yet to be named publicly.
Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Facebook posted on its page Thursday morning: “UPDATE – WE HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THE SPD OFFICER WHO WAS SHOT RESPONDING TO A CALL IN THE QUEENSBOROUGH NEIGHBORHOOD TONIGHT HAS DIED. Dozens of police units are searching for the killer. Please pray for the officer’s family and fellow law enforcement officers – the Thin Blue Line.”
More details continue to emerge as the manhunt continues into Thursday morning.
