Immigration activists aren’t focused on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump anymore; instead, they’re focusing on Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), according to Politico.
“The California liberal with a tough-on-crime streak is stirring deep anxiety among immigration activists ever since she said she would write a bill that would force localities to comply with federal immigration requests — prompted by the death of a San Francisco woman, allegedly at the hands of an immigrant here illegally,” Politico reported Monday.
Protests have emerged at Feinstein’s home state office, where activists are pressuring Feinstein to stay away from writing any legislation regarding sanctuary cities, or any other bills they see as “anti-immigrant.”
“Feinstein’s bill is trying to get us to the point where we continue to generate fear at the local level,” stated Managing Director of United We Dream – an immigration activist group – Christina Jimenez. “She is basically … joining the Donald Trump bandwagon.”
Feinstein and fellow Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) received backlash from immigration activists after they said they might draft legislation regarding sanctuary cities following the death of Kate Steinle, who was shot and killed in San Francisco by an illegal felon.
In an interview with Politico, Feinstein said her legislation would counterbalance measures put forth by Republicans.
