An employee, who works at the sports arena where the Cleveland Cavaliers play, was beaten and robbed outside the stadium on Saturday night, authorities report.
An 18-year-old Garfield Heights resident was leaving work at the Quicken Loans Arena just after 11 p.m. on Saturday night when he was approached by a mob of up to 50 “males youths.” The young man was beaten and robbed of his cell phone, police say.
“When I turned my head, I get sucker-punched, and they all start ganging up on me,” the victim, said. “I fall to the ground on my own, and they start kicking me and stomping on me and everything.”
The fight between the employee and the group of 50 teens was broken up by an off-duty corrections officer.
“I’m very thankful for that guy who stopped,” the victim added. “I don’t know where I’d be right now, probably in the hospital.”
The employee was treated at the scene for cuts, bruises, and scrapes but released.
The victim’s mother told the media that Quicken Loans Arena security is working with the family and police to review security video to see if the offenders can be identified and apprehended.
