WASHINGTON, July 27 (UPI) — Planned Parenthood says it has informed federal investigators after anti-abortion hackers targeted the organization’s website.
The hackers accessed Planned Parenthood’s website databases, and the names and email addresses of its employees Sunday night, Politico reported.
“We’ve seen the claims around attempts to access our systems. We take security very seriously and are investigating. Once we have investigated, we may make future statements,” Tom Subak, Planned Parenthood’s chief information officer, said in a statement.
One of the hackers, identified only as E, told Daily Dot the attack was motivated by Planned Parenthood’s politics.
“Trying to mold an atrocious monstrosity into socially acceptable behaviors is repulsive,” E said. “Obviously what [Planned Parenthood] does is a very ominous practice. It’ll be interesting to see what surfaces when [Planned Parenthood] is stripped naked and exposed to the public.”
The hacking group allegedly plans to release internal emails to the public.
Planned Parenthood has come under fire in recent weeks after the release of two undercover videos appearing to show officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue.
The organization has asked the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate Sunday’s hack.
