For the second week in a row, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will be sending his all-volunteer posse to stand guard outside a recruitment center in Maricopa County.
Sheriff Arpaio did this last week after an Army Terrorism Liason Officer reported “a noticeable increase in surveillance and the photographing of an [Army Reserve] facility.” Sheriff Arpaio was asked to send marked vehicles and posse volunteers to aid in protection until the “threat level of our soldiers declines.”
On Sunday, Breitbart News spoke to Sheriff Arpaio about this and he said he will be sending his posse out to protect the soldiers again this week.
Sheriff Arpaio said:
There’s been a lot of discussion about volunteers across the country going to stand in front of recruiting stations. And the military and the Defense Department do not like it — the citizens standing guard — but my posse is all-citizen volunteer, although they are well-trained and wear uniforms and so forth, but they are still citizen volunteers, and since I’ve been Sheriff I’ve hired thousands of such citizens for my posse.
Sheriff Arpaio sent his posse out to guard schools after the December 2012 attack on Sandy Hook Elementary and Breitbart News reported that the posse guarded black churches following the attack on Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.
Sheriff Arpaio pointed out that the black churches and Army Reserve center reached out to him for protection. And this week, his posse will continue to protect soldiers.
