The father of the woman murdered in the sanctuary city of San Francisco will again appear before Congress later this week.
Jim Steinle, the father of Kathryn Steinle, will testify before the House Judiciary Committee Thursday in a hearing examining sanctuary cities.
Steinle testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday in a hearing titled “Oversight of the Administration’s Misdirected Immigration Enforcement Policies: Examining the Impact on Public Safety and Honoring the Victims.”
Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee will look at the potential dangers posed to the public by sanctuary cities.
“Specifically, sanctuary jurisdictions refuse to comply with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers or notification requests, which are the tools that federal immigration enforcement agents use to pick up criminal aliens in local jails,” the committee majority noted in a release.
“Incredibly, policies implemented by Obama Administration officials at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) authorize sanctuary city policies. Under the Administration’s ‘Priority Enforcement Program,’ the Administration ratifies sanctuary jurisdictions by allowing states and localities to ignore detainer requests,” it added.
A five-time deportee, multiple-felon has been charged with the murder of Kathryn Steinle at a San Francisco pier. The murder has ignited a national debate about sanctuary cities.
Also testifying before the House panel will be Sheriff Scott Jones of Sacramento County, California; Jessica Vaughan, Director of Policy Studies, Center for Immigration Studies; Richard Biehl, Chief of Police, Dayton Police Department, Dayton, Ohio.
