On July 17, MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts referenced the Chattanooga attack on unarmed U.S. Marines and the PEW poll showing Americans are moving away from gun control, then asked Shannon Watts if she’s “fighting a losing battle–that people feel that it’s going to take a good guy with a gun to outdo a bad buy with a gun?” Watts rejected the suggestion.

Watts responded by saying, “Absolutely not.” She went on to point out that her gun control group, Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, rejects the PEW poll’s findings. Watts then cited polls from two-and-a-half years ago in an attempt to argue for more gun control, the Chattanooga attack notwithstanding.

Roberts played a video of President Obama citing the need for a “shift” on how Americans view guns and gun rights–suggesting this “shift” is the necessary prerequisite to the passage of new gun control. Roberts asked Watts, “Do you think that shift can really happen?”

Watts responded, “This is the same Congress we had the day before Sandy Hook, which is when I got involved, that we had the day after. So this Congress, we need them to move.” She then pointed to the fact that gun control bills have been introduced, suggesting that the various introductions of those bills comprise “signs that [Congress] realizes that this is an issue and they need to do something.”

Watts said, “Make no mistake. This is going to be the number one voting issue for many women and mothers in this country 2016. In the meantime, we are winning in the states. We just closed the 38th legislative session this year and we defeated 40 [NRA-backed] bills.” She explained that these bills would have allowed teachers to be armed for self-defense in K-12 schools, that would have allowed women to be armed to fight off sexual predators on college campuses, that would have allowed constitutional carry.

Yes, Watts showed up the day after an Islamist named Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez allegedly shot and killed four unarmed Marines and bragged about the actions her group has taken to keep law-abiding citizens unarmed.
