According to a report that aired on Oklahoma City, OK’s KFOR NewsChannel4 on Wednesday, a man identifying himself as “The Black Rebel” was leading the Confederate flag-laden protest against President Barack Obama, who paid a visit to Oklahoma’s capital city earlier in the day.

The man, Andrew Duncomb, offered the local channel a defense of the much-maligned Confederate flag and said the flag was not the source of the racial strife in America.

“They’re blaming the racist problems on the flag and not on the real problems of America. Through the race lies the people who carry and harbor the hate inside,” Duncomb said. “Again, look at these people, they all followed the black guy out here. Do you think that any of them are racists?”

Duncomb stance did draw the ire of one onlooker who expressed her disapproval of the flag.

“Please do not be fooled and brainwashed by the misconceptions that flag in the South was about slavery,” Kiana Smith, a Oklahoma woman at the protest location, said.
