The NYPD alleges that, early Monday morning, an 18-year-old man sneaked into the bedroom of an 82-year-old Brooklyn woman, then waited for her to arrive before he demanded money, raped, and sodomized her.
On Tuesday, the NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect: Asa Robert, 5’9″, 160 lbs. A folding knife found at the victim’s home marks Robert as the suspected rapist-robber.
Allegedly Robert sneaked into the victim’s home around 2 a.m. Monday while she was sweeping the street outside her home. When she entered her bedroom, he brandished a knife in order to rob her, but she had no money. Robert proceeded to hold a knife to the woman’s face, pick her up by her neck, slam her in her chest, tie her hands behind her back, and shove her into a wall, according to the New York Daily News.
Police say Roberts held her hostage for roughly three hours before he raped her, took her umbrella and some clothes, and fled.
Police said the victim tried to calm the attacker down by talking about family and offering him food. Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said the victim survived because of her kind nature. He told PIX11, “She really saved herself from more damage by her wits… very, very strong.”
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said, “This is a very vicious, violent, depraved individual that we’re seeking and we need to get him off the streets very, very quickly.”
In 2014, Robert was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He is still at large.
