News of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman’s Saturday night escape from a Mexican prison prompted Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to take to his 2.2 million-person Facebook account with messages aimed at the fecklessness of his presidential rivals’ abilities to handle the world’s most notorious drug lord.
“Can you envision Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton negotiating with ‘El Chapo,’ the Mexican drug lord who escaped from prison? Trump, however, on the other hand would kick his ass!” read a Sunday night post. Under Trump’s message was a video with zany photos of Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush, Barack Obama, John Kerry, and George W. Bush interspersed with the words: “Who do you want negotiating for us? All talk no action politicians? Or Trump?”
Trump initially adopted the ‘El Chapo’ theme with an earlier Sunday Facebook post that read: “Mexico’s biggest drug lord escapes from jail. Unbelievable corruption and USA is paying the price. I told you so!”
The billionaire real estate mogul also pounded the issue Monday morning: “The U.S. will invite El Chapo, the Mexican drug lord who just escaped prison, to become a U.S. citizen because our ‘leaders’ can’t say no!” read Trump’s Facebook post.
Donald Trump is currently leading the GOP primary contenders in a recent Economist/YouGov poll.
