Dukes of Hazzard Car Leads ‘Eight-Mile Convoy’ in Florida to Support Confederate Flag

On July 12, a reproduction of the Dukes of Hazzard’s General Lee led an “eight-mile convoy” supporting and waving various Confederate flags in Ocala, Florida.

Ocala is in Marion County, and Breitbart News previously reported on that county’s July 7 decision to reverse a ban on the Confederate flag and raise it again over their Fallen Officers Memorial.

On Sunday, approximately “4,500 people” took part in the Florida Southern Pride Ride. Participants included people “from as far away as California” who came to show their disdain for the various attempts to remove “Confederate flags [from] public buildings throughout the South.”

The Daily Mail reported that a convoy of “more than 1,500 pickups, motorcycles and cars” were involved, all traveling a “17-mile parade” route.

Pride Ride organizer Doug Stone said, “That flag has a lot of different meanings to a lot of different people. It doesn’t symbolize hate unless you think it’s hate – and that’s your problem, not mine.”

The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) spokesman Ben Jones commented on the event by saying he believes “a backlash” against banishing the flag has begun. He said SCV is putting up Confederate flags, adding, “Every time one is taken down, we put five or six of them up.”
