LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Iconic conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, in an exclusive interview at Freedom Fest in Las Vegas, Nevada, tells Breitbart News that football star Tim Tebow “exhibits a muscular kind of Christianity” that more people in the United States should embrace.
“Tim Tebow has become a certain kind of iconic figure—he seems to represent a certain kind of muscular Christianity, almost the kind that the movie chariots of fire exhibited 20 or 30 years ago,” D’Souza said. “I feel there’s a certain boldness about the way he speaks his faith and what he represents. He represents a certain idea of America—kind of American exceptionalism if you will. It’s kind of hard to think of Tim Tebow in Brazil or in India.”
Tebow certainly has never been afraid of fighting for Christianity–and noting that his talents on the football field come from God.
“I realized you are no better just because you’re decent at a sport,” Tebow said in 2013 at an event where he was pushing Christianity, according to the Memphis Flyer newspaper. “It doesn’t make you special just because you can play baseball, football, basketball—those are just gifts from God. We’re all blessed with different gifts but that doesn’t make us more special or better. God gave us a gift and it’s about how we use it for his honor and his glory.”
D’Souza on Saturday will be in Tennessee with Tebow at Middle Tennessee State University for a faith-based event.
“I want to talk to him a little about his values, his faith, but also about his politics and his patriotism,” D’Souza said. “In some senses, Tim Tebow is a role model for young people today.”
“Join me on July 11, 2015 at Middle Tennessee State University as we celebrate and worship God together,” the event organizer from Christian group Music With A Purpose wrote on their blog about the event. “I am excited to return to Middle Tennessee for the first time in five years for a speaking event and look forward to meeting you, your family, and friends. Be sure to tell everyone about this event, it is my hope we have a sold out show and we will have the nation talking about Tennessee and your love of Jesus Christ and America.”
D’Souza has been one of many conservative stalwarts to speak at Freedom Fest here in Las Vegas, where the 2016 campaign trail is burning up even more with real estate magnate Donald Trump facing off against Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) at the Planet Hollywood resort and casino on Las Vegas Boulevard.
The event in Tennessee on Saturday afternoon will feature not just D’Souza and Tebow, but also former state Sen. David Fowler, the current president of the Family Action Council of Tennessee, and will be emceed by nationally syndicated radio host Phil Valentine.
