Christina Freundlich, a Democratic operative who took an Instagram selfie of herself grinning near the East Village gas leak explosion on March 26 that killed two people, has reportedly been named a spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee.
According to the New York Daily News, “Factivists,” a DNC spin website, listed Freundlich as a “DNC spokesperson.” And what looks like Freundlich’s Twitter feed, calls her a “Southern Regional Press Secretary” for the party.
Before taking the selfie, in which she flashed the peace sign with the caption, “Scene of the accident,” Freundlich had worked for roughly two years for the Iowa Democratic party; her Linkedin page listed her as a Iowa Democratic Party communications director.
She later apologized, saying, “I am deeply sorry for my careless and distasteful post. It was inconsiderate to those hurt in the crash and to the city of New York. What happened last week in the East Village is not to be taken lightly and I regret my course of action.”
Freundlich had resigned as Iowa’s communications director on March 6.
