Immigration Attorney on Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson Court Summons: ‘It’s a Total Slap in the Face’

Washington D.C. based Immigration attorney Kyle Barella responded to U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Hanen’s (appointed by President George W. Bush) summons of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and four other immigration enforcement officials, ordering them to explain why they shouldn’t be held in contempt of court for violating his court order, as Breitbart News previously reported.

“It’s a total slap in the face to our legal system. Whether you agree with the order or not, the rules have to be followed and due process must run its course,” Barella, founder of Barella Law, P.C. told Breitbart News. “I can understand DHS making a mistake, but they also need to correct that mistake in a timely manner.”

The order requires the five officials to appear at a hearing in Brownsville, Texas on August 19th, but the hearing may not end up taking place, according to Politico, which reported that Hanen said he would cancel it if he was “satisfied” with the government’s actions to correct work permits it issued to illegal immigrants which violated Hanen’s earlier court injunction, halting implementation of President Obama’s executive action.

According to Barella, he predicts they will not end up appearing in court.

“It’s unlikely they will appear before the judge. Arrangements will be made prior to their appearance to rectify the situation,” Barella stated. He predicts a Department of Justice lawyer may get the immigration officials out of appearing before the judge.
