Children Given the Wrong Vaccines at Jersey ‘Shots for Tots’ Clinic Event

Authorities are investigating whether five children in a South Jersey clinic “shots for tots” event were given the wrong vaccines over the last year.

The free clinic operated by the Salem County Health Department at Memorial Hospital of Salem County in Mannington Township has been shut down in light of the investigation.

Health officials report that 22 patient records revealed “irregularities” with the shots given to at least five kids between July of 2014 and June of this year.

One nurse has already been fired after having injected a child with a high dose of the cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil.

The audit of the clinic’s records also found that $20,000 worth of vaccines were not properly refrigerated and had to be thrown away.
