Over the weekend, Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) said an attempt at a constitutional amendment to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman is unrealistic considering the two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate required to amend the Constitution.
Bush said, “I think now we need to focus on two things. How do we create an environment where people are not discriminated against? Where we respect people’s commitments to long term loving relationships and where we also allow people to act on their religious conscious. A country as big and diverse as this one ought be able to sort that out.”
When asked about calls for a Constitutional Amendment Bush said, “I don’t think its realistic. I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
