The left’s crusade on American history continues as New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu calls for the removal of a monument to Confederate General Robert E. Lee that has stood since 1884.
Meaningful results following a significant tragedy, such as in Charleston, have gradually evolved into a “we want something done now” mentality that only serve as shallow solutions to a bigger dialogue. That mindset has paved the way for the radical left’s present war on our history as a nation.
Major retail outlets such as eBay and Amazon have banned the sales of Confederate flags. However, they continue to allow Nazi and Communist flag transactions on their sites.
While at a meeting on racial reconciliation in the city, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined the war on history by calling for the replacement of “divisive monuments and symbols with ones that reflect unity, hope, and our bright future as a city” in reference to a 60-foot-tall column with a depiction of General Robert E. Lee.
Landrieu’s comments, published on his Twitter feed following the meeting, called “to start the discussion on replacing the General Lee monument as we approach #NOLA’s 300th anniversary.” Landrieu later tweeted, “Symbols matter- must ask if prominent city symbols reflect who we are today or if they ever reflected who we were.”
The monument of General Lee is not the only monument some in the New Orleans’s community want abolished.
Pastor Shawn Anglim of the First Grace United Methodist wants a similar monument of the former Confederate President Jefferson Davis removed from near his church.
“I think removing that statute is a real-concrete-symbolic step of where we want to go as New Orleanians,” Anglim said.
New Orleans is enmeshed in street names and monuments that pay tribute to the state’s historical involvement in the Civil War. Statues of Lee, Davis, and Beauregard are a just a few of the city’s tributes to the Civil War.
The left continues with their agenda, which is being driven by the divisive narrative of the mainstream media, to change the course of history. This entire outcry is due to one deranged and racially-motivated individual in the wake of the Charleston massacre.
The evil of one person does not undo the history of an entire nation.
No matter how hard the left pushes to erase it.
