On June 19, a man with a long criminal history, who was allegedly armed with a knife near Boston University, was shot and killed by a Massachusetts state trooper.
The shooting occurred following a foot chase in which the man tried to flee police.
According to WBUR, Boston University police first discovered the man around 2 pm while “looking for a male who had outstanding warrants.”
Troopers helping in the pursuit caught up the man, and the shooting took place on Silber Footbridge, which the New York Daily News reports “connects the BU campus to the Esplanade park along the Charles River in Boston.”
WBUR reported that the man, allegedly armed with a knife, “had a long criminal history in Suffolk County… [and] the outstanding warrants included harassment.”
The Suffolk County district attorney’s office is now working to ascertain “whether criminal charges are warranted in connection with the use of lethal force.”
