Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) took a page out of Paul Ryan’s book this week in an interview with KROK-AM, when he blamed websites including the Drudge Report for spreading “misinformation” about the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) and Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).
He also attempted to explain away some of the public “misperceptions” the House Ways and Means Chairman has made over the past several weeks during his push to get Trade Promotion Authority passed for President Obama.
“If you look at Drudge, if you look at Obamatrade[.com], people are saying, you know, ‘Paul Ryan has said it’s in secret and you’ve got to pass it to find out what’s in it.’ Well that’s not true,” Kinzinger told WROK-AM. “What he was saying is, we have to pass TPA so that TPP even exists and so that we have an opportunity to read it and vote on it.”
“Nothing on what we voted on was a tax increase, or a secret deal, or an immigration issue. It is a very basic thing,” Kinzinger said.
However, Kinzinger – like Ryan – is not being fully transparent.
First, multiple sources tell to Breitbart News that the TAA was going to include a tax increase, as proposed by Ryan and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).
Second, Breitbart News also reported on the WikiLeaks documents showing the Trade in Services Agreement – one of the three trade deals Obama wants to finalize using fast-track authority through TPA – which experts say holds language that could alter current U.S. immigration law.
In reference to Kinzinger also claiming it isn’t a “secret deal” – that’s also untrue. TiSA and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) – two of Obama’s trade deals – have not been made public and even members of Congress can’t read them yet. Furthermore, TPP is being kept in a secured room for only House and Senate members to review – again not allowing public access.
Kinzinger also suggested Fox News anchors didn’t understand the topic.
“In fact, a lot of where this misinformation has come from, it’s actually amazing. I saw Paul Ryan on ‘Fox and Friends,’ and even the anchors of ‘Fox and Friends’ did not really know the difference between TPA, TPP, TAA,” jabbed Kinzinger.
