On June 18, a 58-year-old man allegedly attacked an elderly woman and an NYPD officer with an 11-inch hunting knife and was shot and killed by the officer.
The incident occurred about 1:30 pm “below the Ocean Parkway Q train station.”
According to NBC New York, NYPD Officer Filippo Gugliara heard the noises of the man allegedly attacking the woman and ran to her aid. When the Gugliara arrived, the man allegedly stabbed him in the neck with the knife, leading Gugliara to shoot the man in the torso.
Gugliara “fired two shots,” and the “suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.”
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said Gugliara received stitches to his neck but suffered “no internal injuries.”
Mayor Bill de Blasio praised Gugliara for his “bravery” and actions.
